Narrow Web Flexographic Printing Process

Provides basic overview of Flexographic printing process and components of the narrow web press. Students will learn about various types of printing, plate mounting and cylinders, tooling, inking systems, inks and substrates.

Personal Safety & Environmental Concerns

Outlines basic safety fundamentals, OSHA regulations and professional practices that will help press operators take an active role in the improvement of their working environment.

Inks and Solvents

Provides an introduction to inks, solvents and the procedures for proper identification, handling and storage.

Basic Press Operations

Explains basic operations by following the substrate through the four major areas of the press. Students will become proficient in the key sections, controls and functions of a modern narrow web Flexographic printing press.

Set Up Procedures

Focuses on the basics of setting up the narrow web press, including developing a set-up plan, inspection and installation of appropriate materials and tools, preparing for various printing options, and confirming a checklist approval form. Although the overall process may vary from machine to machine, this module will provide students with the basic skills to set up any narrow web press.

Press Run Procedures

Details typical press run procedures, such as adding and monitoring inks, performing inspections and quality checks, adjusting registration, and preparing for the next job. Following this module, students will be able to efficiently carry out typical press run procedures.

Clean Up Procedures

Demonstrates correct and efficient clean up procedures to minimize downtime between jobs and keep press in good working condition. Students will become familiar with cleaning equipment, step-by-step procedures, ink removal, labeling requirements, and preparation of tooling for the next printing job.

Record Keeping

Provides a basic explanation of standard industry reporting such as press reports, job history forms, ink and solvent forms, hold tags, and others. Although individual company records kept may vary, this module will provide an understanding of basic reporting requirements and the importance of the information these reports provide.

Platemaking

Discusses the characteristics of plates that are required to produce high-quality print, as well as providing an in-depth look at the steps used to produce photopolymer plates for Flexographic printing. Students will gain skills in quality appraisal, improving plate life, and troubleshooting problems with solvents.

Color Theory and Process Printing

Introduces students to the basics of color theory, color separation and process printing for flexography. Students will gain a fuller understanding the methods used to produce a high-quality full color product.

Presswork and Pressmanship

Highlights key concepts and principles that allow press operator to get the best possible printing results and maintain control in all aspects of the process. All aspects of control will be covered, including preparation, material components and classification, selection and use of tooling, proper press side procedures, and steps in problem-solving press problems.
